Almost a year I was now with the Nexus 6P on the way. It never let me down and was the best smartphone I’ve had so far and, in my opinion, Huawei has built so far. Here are my impressions, packed in a detailed long-term test of the Nexus 6P.
- ✓Good sound
- ✓Super screen
- ✓Type C connector for fast charging
- ✓Early updates
- ✕Memory not expandable
- ✕For most hands bulky
The display of the Nexus 6P is larger, sharper and dissolves higher than that of the Nexus 5X. It is a 5.7 inch OLED display with 2.560 x 1.440 pixels, thus 515 ppi. Brightness, saturation and contrast are outstanding.
The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 4 against scratches. The touch screen functionality is precise and reliable. So players will benefit from the high-quality display of the Nexus 6P with touch input and image quality. The image quality is in no way inferior to the expensive Samsung devices, which are considered as reference in the field.
Also the amount of control you have over the display brightness is larger than with other smartphones. The minimum brightness is ideal for reading at night in the bed without keeping you awake or disturbing others. The maximum brightness defies the brightness of the summer sun and always ensures readability.
The Nexus 6P was delivered with Android version 6.0 Marshmallow . Meanwhile, of course, the update is available on Android 7.0 Nougat . According to the official update plan, you should also get Android 8.0 with the Nexus 6P. According to the devices of the successor series Google Pixel , the Nexus 6P is the second, which gets from Google new Android versions; Still much earlier than other smartphones.
The pure Android in the Nexus 6P works quickly and reacts quickly to user inputs. Even after almost a year of use, several updates, copious data garbage and careless use, the software is the rock in the surf. The basic system runs for weeks without rebooting problem-free and stable.
I recently joined Google’s beta program with the Nexus 6P. So you get Android updates even earlier, but you have to reckon with losses in stability and functionality. On the one hand, there are occasional problems with the Bluetooth peripherals. On the other hand, some apps no longer start because their developers have not been able to make any adjustments.
For everyday life, I would advise you of software experiments. If, however, you like the tinkers, like me, the Nexus 6P is your first choice. In addition to the beta program, there is the option to unlock the bootloader.
Then you can install any third party firmware and modify your smartphone basic. Thanks to the original system images provided by Google, you can return to the factory state after a failed attempt. Your guarantee claim is retained.
In the test, we have exerted this several times. The Nexus 6P became our example for CyanogenMod installations . The most complicated thing about the process is preparing Windows. Everything behind is from the operation more simpler than some Cigarettenautomat.
The Nexus 6P is the fastest available Qualcomm processor. Games from the Play Store all run wonderfully smoothly and with high details. I noticed, however, that my fingers always abused as water cooling. The aluminum back is heated noticeably under continuous loads, but the apps always ran wildly; So obviously everything remained within the framework.

As mentioned briefly in the software section, it can nevertheless lead to failures. If you should participate in the beta program, they are almost pre-programmed. And also the update to the stable version of Android 7.0 Nougat stayed with me with no negative consequences. Many users in the Android issue tracker report the problem that happened with me: The UI (user interface) stops, restarts, and forces you to type your unlock pattern or PIN.
