Since Watch Dogs has been released, Ubisoft puts several references to Assassin’s Creed in the series, just as Assassin’s Creed has also had its dose of Watchdog’s easter eggs. However, Ubisoft has always denied that everything was just jokes and that the franchises did not happen in the same universe. So far.
With Assassin’s Creed Origins, we finally got the official confirmation that both games are in the same fictional world and that referrals are more than jokes, they’re crossovers. Below, we have content that can be considered spoilers for some players, so it’s good to warn.
In Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, there is a character named Olivier Garneau, who has a considerable role in the contemporary part of the game. In the first Watch Dogs, there is a mission that consists of assassinating Garneau, something that Ubisoft says was just a joke of the team.
Now, during today’s Assassin’s Creed Origins sessions, there’s a notebook filled with Abstergo employee documents. In one of them, it is possible to see Olivier Garneau being executed by none other than Adan Pierce, protagonist of Watch Dogs.
Of course, the decision to put a picture like this is to fan the fans and increase the dose of easter eggs among the franchises. But with such clarity, it is now impossible to say that it is just a joke, since the photo makes it possible for the two series to pass in the same universe into something real. If more elements like this will appear in the future or if the crossover will be even more daring, only time will tell.
